Pock Aztecs 0 - TAJFC 9 (Under 12's)

Starting line-up was Joe, Matty, Josh, Adamski, Joel, Macca, Wardy, Hazza, Craggers, Sam & JB.
Our subs WOULD have been Ollie P & Paul if Ollie P had remembered to bring the right size boots! TAJFC were fully up for it after last week's mangled and mis-cued cup clash against fellow title chasers Rawcliffe Warriors. The promise of chip butties at the end seemed to reverberate through the team like a wave of stifled hysteria. Joe actually asked the ref to hang on whilst he found his emergency ketchup. On Pock's excellent pitch, TAJFC pressed and pressured the opposition relentlessly and during 30 mins Pock only got into the Tad penalty area twice. First half goals came from Josh (5 mins), screamer from Adamski (16 mins), Josh again (22 mins) and Matty on 28 mins. Craggers was suffering from jelly-belly after consuming a Chicken Bhuna following a wild night on the town and was manfully substituted by Paul on 20mins.
Playing against the wind and uphill in the second half, Josh soon found his mark again with a further 2 goals on 35 & 40mins. There was some really superb linking play between Sam, Macca & Joel down the right flank that lead to a goal from Macca on 42mins and a swift follow up came in a similar style with an excellent goal from Matty 60 seconds later. Josh capped off the day with his fifth on 55 mins. The ref must have been feeling the cold because he blew the final whistle at 59:30. Man Of The Match went (for the first time this season - despite being our top goal scorer) to Joel for great skill, strength and vision out on the right. Excellent all-around performance........same again when play them next week, please - goals are vital at this halfway point (Copmanthorpe scored the same amount as us today). See you on Wednesday 6pm. New training kit due this week!

Tad Albion U10s vs Copmanthorpe (18th October)

'A' Team Match Reports

Tadcaster Albion 1 – 5 Copmanthorpe
Squad: Alfie, Ethan, George, Jack, James, Sam, Scott, Tom
Scorers: James

A fine October morning saw Tadcaster Albion play host to Copmanthorpe down at Riverside.
The same 8 players who performed so heroically against York Cubs on their previous outing were, unfortunately, a long way from that level in this match. Having said that, the first half was fairly evenly balanced with Copmanthorpe taking the lead close to half time when a fairly tame shot somehow squeezed through Alfie’s legs. Had Tadcaster been able to string any sort of passing play together the game was most definitely there for the taking. But too often the ball carrier chose to try and take on the Cop defence rather than look for the easier passing option.
The half time team talk went unheeded with no visible improvement in Tadcaster’s play. Things quickly went from bad to worse as Copmanthorpe knocked the stuffing out of the home team with goals 2 and 3. The away team were on the up and played some lovely football against a Taddy team which had all but given up – scoring twice more. There was late consolation when James pounced to tap in after Tom’s shot had only been parried by the Copmanthorpe ‘keeper. Too little, too late though.
So, in summary, this was a harsh lesson for Tadcaster that to get anywhere in Division 1 takes a team effort. Let’s hope it was “just one of those days” and that the boys can bounce back in two weeks time against Poppleton.
Man of the Match: George – Can hold his head high for not giving up the fight.

2nd Game report
Tadcaster Albion 0 – 3 Copmanthorpe
Squad: Alfie, Ethan, George, Jack, James, Sam, Scott, Tom

Similar attitude and a similar result. The first half was fairly even, finishing goalless, but it was one-way traffic in the second half as Copmanthorpe passed Tadcaster off the park.
Man of the Match: Ethan – Good effort in defence.

TAJFC 5 - Pocklington 0 (Under 11's)

On a cold damp morning down at the ings, Taddy started rather slowly in what should have been a fairly easy game, for the first five minutes, Pocklington saw much of the possession, but couldn’t manage to break down the Tad defence, after that Taddy got into there stride and started to dominate the game, after approx 15 minutes, Austin broke down the left, and after playing a ball into Jamie received a return pass into the area and hit a low shot off the inside of the near post that went in off the far post, after that it was all Taddy, and it wasn’t long before it was 2 – 0, Aran played a long ball down the right to Taylor who carried the ball forward before passing inside to Jamie who fired a low shot under the keeper and into the back of the net, half time 2 – 0.
Second half saw Taddy dominate a now deflated Pocklington side, and within 5 minutes of the restart Austin hit his second of the game after some good work in midfield by Callum, Aran and Cavan, the ball was played to Taylor who slotted it inside to Jamie who put Austin through to fire the ball past the keeper, 3 – 0 Taddy, on the few occasions Pocklington did manage to get into the Taddy half, any chances they had were all snuffed out by the back 4 of Kieren, Priestley, Ryan and Harry, 2 more goals came in the last 10 minutes when Taylor broke down the right wing, got a good cross in which was flicked on by Jamie, then Cavan to Sam who coolly slotted it past the keeper, then with just minutes to go, aran got the ball in midfield, and after evading a couple of tackles passed to Callum, then Adam who knocked into the area where the ball bobbled off several players before Taylor back heeled it into the net, final score Tadcaster Albion 5 – 0 Pocklington Town.
squad ….. Ross, Kieren, Sam, Ryan, Harry, Taylor, Aran, Cavan, Callum, Jamie, Austin,
Adam, Priestley and Owen
. Man of the Match Harry exellent defending

TAJFC 9 - Huntington 3 (Under 12's)

Well done to TAJFC Under 12's for a good performance against Huntington today at The Ings.

Starting line-up was Josh J, Matty, Hamish, Adam, Joel, Macca, Ollie W, Hazza, Craig, Sam and JB. Huntington were a smartly turned out, professional-looking side who (at the start of the match) were 3rd in the league, one place above TAJFC. Play was pretty even in the first 10 mins until Hazza broke the deadlock on 12 mins with a shot from just inside the area at an acute angle that went into the top corner. Joel swiftly followed up with 2 goals, coolly taken, at 18 mins and 21 mins. Josh J, who is improving his game week on week, slotted one home on 26 mins and Hazza took the score to 6-0 at half time. Matty, Josh J and Adam gave way to George, Paul and Angus at the break with George playing up front next to Paul and Angus slotting into defence next to Craig.
Paul opened his account almost immediately from the re-start, but Huntington fought back with vigour and pulled one back on 38 mins. Tadcaster lost their shape slightly and conceded another in short order. Hamish scored a blinder on 45 mins with Matty bringing the score to 9 with a great shot on 50 mins. Huntington scored from a debatable free-kick just outside the are which was helped by the strong wind that picked up in the second half. Good overall performance with creditable activity in almost all areas, but, as always, room for improvement! Man Of The Match - Hazza in recognition of his strength, skill and workrate. Congratulations to TABlues who beat Pocklington Aztecs 1-2 and thanks to Joe & Ollie P for their special contribution this week. Training moves to Wednesday nights at 6pm under floodlights - please remember, no steel studs and warm clothing - our new pitch is a bit exposed...;
Thanks to all of the people who have paid deposits to the Christmas Party - this looks like it's going to be a mammoth joint event with the U11's and we may have to increase the numbers available - more info to follow. As always, thanks to the Parents for their help and support.

Tad Albion U10s 'v' York Cubs (4th October)

'A' Team Match Reports

Tadcaster Albion 2 – 1 York Cubs
Squad: Alfie, Ethan, George, Jack, James, Sam, Scott, Tom
Scorers: Ethan, Jack

A glorious sunny October morning saw Tadcaster Albion play host to York Cubs – one of the two teams to beat Taddy last season.
The match kicked off at a furious pace and right from the start there was very little to choose between the two teams. Both sides showed their intent to attack, but with strong midfields and organized defences, clear cut chances were few and far between. Tadcaster did get on top of the midfield battle and midway through the first half Ethan found himself with enough room to let fly from distance. It looked like a goal from the moment it left his foot, and although the Cubs ‘keeper did well to get his hand to it, he couldn’t stop the ball finding the top corner.
Within a minute of the re-start Jack found himself with a shooting opportunity from wide on the right and he fired an unstoppable shot into the top corner giving the home side a bit of breathing space. The whole team worked their socks off throughout the match and really didn’t look like they would concede a goal. Cubs came back though and grabbed a goal with 2 minutes remaining to set the nerves jangling for the home coaches and supporters. Thankfully though it proved to be merely a consolation and the final whistle sounded to give Taddy one of their best ever wins.
York Cubs (players, coaches and supporters) played their part in a cracking game which was a fantastic advert for mini-soccer. But this was a match that Tadcaster fully deserved to win. Jack and James lead the line superbly - closing down the Cubs defence and staying positive even though they weren’t seeing much of the ball. Tom and Ethan won the midfield battle and tipped the balance in Tadcaster’s favour. The two at the back – Scott and George - were as solid as ever as was Alfie in goal. Sam also played a huge part in this win – his energy and commitment coming on as sub allowed the midfield and strikers to get a well earned breather.
Man of the Match: Ethan – Cracking goal which gave the whole team belief that they could win the game.

2nd Game report
Tadcaster Albion 2 – 2 York Cubs
Squad: Alfie, Ethan, George, Jack, James K, James O, Louis, Scott
Scorers: Scott, George

Tadcaster found themselves 2-0 down early on in this match as they struggled to get going following the efforts of the first game. They did pull a goal back though towards the end of the first half thanks (once again) to Scott.
The second half was fairly evenly balanced and Tadcaster got the only goal of the game thanks to a suberb clinical finish from George.
Man of the Match: Jack – Terrific effort supporting the defence from midfield.

Bishopthorpe 'v' Tad Albion U10s (27th September)

'A' Team Match Reports

Bishopthorpe 1 – 1 Tadcaster Albion
Squad: Alfie, Ethan, George, Jack, James, Scott, Tom
Scorers: James

Tadcaster Albion made the short trip over to Bishopthorpe hoping to maintain their excellent early season form.
The first half started at a frantic pace and that combined with a rock hard pitch, meant that the quality of football suffered. It certainly didn’t affect the excitement though as play switched from end to end and both defenses struggled to cope with high balls. Alfie had to be alert and as brave as ever rushing out to save on a couple of occasions and Jack rattled the Bish crossbar with a high looping effort. It was amazing really that it took until the end of the first half before the opening goal – the first real quality piece of play. Tom drove up the middle beating 2 players before passing out wide for James to riffle the ball into the net.
The second half was a mirror of the first. End to end play and absolute total commitment from both teams. Taddy rattle the woodwork twice more, but it was Bishopthorpe who completed the scoring when the Taddy defence was deceived by a high bouncing ball which left Alfie with no chance.
Having struck the woodwork 3 times, Taddy can count themselves unlucky not to have nicked all the points, but to be truthful a draw was a fair result.
Man of the Match: Alfie – Showed what a great ‘keeper he his with a couple of excellent first half saves.

2nd Game report
Bishopthorpe 1– 1 Tadcaster Albion
Squad: Alfie, Ethan, George, Jack, James, Scott, Tom
Scorers: James

Two very tired teams lined up for the second game and once again positions were swapped around for the friendly match. Tom and Scott seemed to be having some sort of “who can get away with the most blatant handball in our own area” competition (won by Tom for his 2-handed effort). To be honest though, all the boys put so much into the first match that they might have been better just calling it a day.
The stand-out players were Alfie (fair enough as he’d been stood in goal for all of the first match) and George who showed real hunger to get on the score sheet again (and came really close to doing that).
As for the action, well … Bishopthorpe scored first; we equalised when their ‘keeper couldn’t deal with James’ corner.
Man of the Match: George – see comment above.

TAJFC v Pock Predators (Acaster Steel Cup)

TAJFC U12's received a salutatory lesson today about finishing from Division 1 dynamos - Pocklington Predators. In the first round of the Acaster Steel Cup, Tad met PP's on their home pitch. Starting line-up was Josh J, Matty, Joel, Paul, Joe, Ollie P, Macca, Ollie W, Hazza, Craig & John. Sam C was ill with a raging temperature and Josh J manfully stepped up at short notice.
TAJFC had the best of the play in the first 15 mins and it looked for a while that the 2 divisions difference between these sides would be overcome......however PP had some excellent strikers and scored 2 stunning goals in quick succession on 17 and 18 mins. TAJFC fought back, but conceded again just before half-time. George, Angus and Adam swapped with Ollie P, Joe S and Ollie W, but (repeating the pattern that happen in the first half), PP scored 2 screamers on 34 and 36 mins. TAJFC battled valiantly with Hazza, Joel, Craig and Macca maximising their workrate.A penalty was awarded when Joel was brought down, but was unfortunately missed when Paul took out a pigeon flying at 30 feet. For almost half an hour play was deadlocked with a couple of missed chances at either end. PP got their last goal on 58 mins and Hazza made a new friend(!).
As their league position shows, Pocklington were a very skillful side, with great finishing and (like Harrods) had quality in all departments. The Pock manager Joe was very complimentary about TAJFC and wished us well in the League, Plate and Cup. Men Of The Match were Josh J for an outstanding and committed performance and Paul for his inestimable work rate, tenacity and skill under pressure - well done (despite the scoreline). Thanks again to parents for helping out and conducting the raffle. Training as normal on Friday. Last shout for Registration Fees. Get Well Soon Sam!

TAJFC 17 - Haxby 0 (Under 12's)

Starting line-up was John B, Ollie W, Craig R, Adam B, Sam C, Paul H, Josh J, Ollie P, Macca, Joe S, and Joel.
Bit of a goal-fest today........ TAJFC played their usual formation and though they we comfortably 4 - 0 up at the break, many chances were missed. We had a bit of a change around at half-time with Hazza, George B and Matty O taking the places of Craig, Sam and Macca.
Ollie P dropped back into defence, Joe and Paul swapped places, Adam went out to the right of defence and Hazza played adjacent to Matty on the right wing. Goals were as follows:-

Josh J - 6 mins
Joel - 12 mins
Joe - 15 mins
Paul - 27 mins
HALF TIME - Change of Tactics!
Matty - 31 mins
Matty - 33 mins
Harry - 34 mins
Harry - 36 mins
Joel - 38 mins
Josh J - 48 mins
Josh J - 50 mins
Harry - 52 mins
Joel - 54 mins
Matty - 55 mins
Paul - 58 mins
Joel - 59 mins
Paul -60 mins
Man Of The Match was Ollie W for his sterling and stirring work in defence.
Housekeeping: Spoke to the players today to tell them that we are in the happy position of getting record attendances for Training and Matches. This means that one squad member each week is likely to get a 'phone call telling them to have a rest day. I'll be keeping an accurate record of this (and each player's appearances) so that, as far as possible and subject to outside activities, fitness and ability, everyone will get an equitable opportunity. Thanks to Hamish and his parents for being understanding about this on this occasion.
Christmas Party (what already?) - is booked for Saturday 19th December 2009 and will be a joint event with the Under 11's and any TABlues players that want to attend. More detail to follow - priced to please!
Many thanks for all of the help and support from Parents - Training is as normal on Friday.
