U8’s Tadcaster Riverside Albion ‘v’ Heworth

Yellow Team Match Report
1st Game: Tadcaster Albion 2 – 3 Heworth
Goal Scorers: Harry, James
2nd Game: Tadcaster Albion 3 – 6 Heworth
Goal Scorers: o.g. (2), James

1st Game report
Tadcaster lined up for the first game with Alfie in goal; Daniel and Joseph in defence; Sam and Megan in midfield; Harry up front.
Tadcaster were caught cold at the start of this game by a very strong Heworth side, conceding 2 early goals. A lack of concentration in their own penalty area was the cause of both goals. There was little to cheer for the home crowd as Tadcaster struggled to get out their own half. Megan had to go off towards the end of the half to be replaced by James, but another goal conceded left the home side with a mountain to climb in the second half. Half Time score: Tadcaster 0, Heworth 3.
Megan and Emily replaced Daniel and Sam for the second half. Tadcaster needed to get an early goal and that’s just what they did – Harry pouncing to poke the ball home after the goalkeeper dropped a shot. Chances came and went at both ends – Alfie playing an absolute blinder in goal to keep Tadcaster in with a chance. With a couple of minutes to go, James collected the ball in his own half and set off at full tilt, beating four Heworth players before slotting the ball into the bottom corner. Tadcaster were well on top and the home crowd were loving it, but time ran out on a brave second half performance. Final score: Tadcaster 2, Heworth 3.

2nd Game report
The line up for the second game was Megan in goal, Emily and Daniel in defence; James, Sam and Harry in midfield; Alfie up front.
Again, Tadcaster went 3-0 down in the first half, and yet again they came back strongly against the Heworth ‘A’ team. The first Tadcaster goal came from a deflected corner driven in by James. Half Time score: Tadcaster 1, Heworth 3.
Tadcaster got another goal back early in the second half – again from a deflected corner. Then after Alfie had been fouled twice in succession, James smashed in a free kick to bring the scores level at 3-3. That was as good as it got though and Heworth’s extra pace and strength told as they scored 3 goals to run out comfortable winners. Final score: Tadcaster 3, Heworth 6.

Tadcaster were beaten by the better side in both games, but for sheer effort, determination and bravery, there was only one winner for me !

Man of the Match: A very tough decision. But, its not easy being a ‘keeper and after conceding 3 in the first half of the first game, Alfie showed great determination & bravery, not to mention pulling off some great saves. Well done Alfie !
