Tad Albion U8s ‘v’ Woodthorpe (24th Feb)

U8 Yellow Team Match Report

1st Game report
Woodthorpe 0 – 1 Tadcaster Albion
Scorers: Alfie
The Yellow team lined up for the first game with Justin in goal; Emily and Joseph defence; Harry and Megan in midfield; Alfie up front.
Tadcaster started the match confidently and they were rewarded early on with a goal from Alfie. Harry looked full of running and a mazy run through the Woodthorpe defence resulted in a penalty after a mistimed tackle in the area. Alfie stepped up to take the spot kick, but didn’t connect properly and the ‘keeper saved comfortably. At the other end, Emily and Joseph were never really troubled – helped by good defensive work from the midfield pair of Harry and Megan. As the half wore on, Tadcaster continued to dominate and had several chances to extend their lead, however desperate defending by the home side kept the Tadcaster lead to a single goal.
Sam and Daniel replaced Emily and Megan for the second half. Again, Tadcaster looked the most likely to score, and really should have finished off the home side. Great play between Harry and Alfie saw them create chance after chance, but they never quite got away from the last defender. As time started to run out, Woodthorpe pushed forward looking for the equaliser, but throughout the whole match, Justin didn’t really have a proper shot to save and the match ended with another narrow win for Tadcaster.

Man of the Match: Harry. Played his best game for a few weeks and looked full of running throughout – keep up the good work. Well done Harry !

2nd Game report
Woodthorpe 1 – 1 Tadcaster Albion
Scorers: Alfie
The line up for the second game was Harry in goal; Daniel and Emily in defence; Megan, Joseph and Sam in midfield; Alfie up front.
Again Tadcaster took the lead in the first half – the ball broke out from defence after a strong blocking tackle from Daniel. Alfie chased the retreating defender and nicked it off him before poking it past the ‘keeper for a great goal. Again, Tadcaster could have won comfortably, but lacked the killer instinct in front of goal. In the end an equaliser late in the second half was probably just reward from some good pressure by Woodthorpe - and a warning to Tadcaster to put their chances away when they get them.

Man of the Match: Daniel – great effort. His best ever game for Tadcaster. Well done Daniel !

Tad Albion U10's (A Team) vs Huntington (Match Report)

Great win for the A Team against Huntington today. Good linking play from Joel B, Harry H and finally Jamie G resulted in an early goal from Jamie G.
Tad sat back for a while and were lucky not to conceed against 'in form' Huntington. Mick switched on his hairdryer at half time (on a medium setting!) and the lads battled valiantly to win 2-0.
Man of the Match (1st Game) Joel B
Man of the Match (2nd Game) Josh J
Next week's Mothering Sunday Cup game against Old Malton has been re-arranged but training will continue as normal.
We are hoping to have the cooking facilities back on in the Clubhouse in time for our home game against Poppleton Panthers on 9th March (the clocks go back that weekend - hurray!).
Final note - we are currently trying to get permission to hold our Tournament on the Ings which means we need to be vigilant in our behaviour towards the householders by the pitch. Please don't park near the gate - you should aim to park at the large car park behind the ground - and please don't clean your boots on the road leading to the Ings or bash them against the householder's walls. Thanks in advance.

Tad Albion U8s ‘v’ Wiggington (17th Feb)

U8 Yellow Team Match Report

1st Game report
Tadcaster Albion 2 – 1 Wiggington
Scorers: Harry, James

Tadcaster lined up for the first game with Alfie in goal; Justin and Joseph in defence; James and Megan in midfield; Harry up front.
Tadcaster started brightly in a delayed kick off (due to very frosty conditions). Some good early possession saw Tadcaster attacking the Wiggington end, but they lacked the cohesion seen in previous weeks. For all the determination and effort Tadcaster were playing as individuals rather than as a team. The result was 10 minutes of frustration for everyone playing and watching as the half ended goal-less.
Edan replaced Justin for the second half, with Megan dropping back to defence.
Another mixed performance in the second half saw a slight improvement, and also the early break through as an angled shot from Harry somehow found the back of the net. Any hopes that this would settle the nerves and allow the home side to push on were dashed as Wiggington hit back soon after to make the scores level. Tadcaster kept pushing for the winner and had to trust to lady luck and a couple of good saves from Alfie as things ‘went a bit pear shaped’ at the back, but in the end (and I mean right at the end) Tadcaster sneaked the win. The ball broke to James in the area and he kept his cool to slot the ball home.
This team has commitment and determination in abundance and in the end that won them the match. If they can start to play as a team they stand a real chance of winning this league. At the half way point in the season, Tadcaster are in great position – Third in the league but only 1 point behind the leaders. Let’s go for it !

Man of the Match: Megan – 100% commitment as usual. Well done Megan !

2nd Game report
Tadcaster Albion 5 – 4 Wiggington
Scorers: Alfie(3), James(2)
The line up for the friendly game was Harry in goal, Justin and Joseph in defence; James, Megan and Edan in midfield; Alfie up front.
Another mixed performance, saw Tadcaster play some great football early. Leading 3-1 at half time thanks to 2 goals from Alfie and 1 from James, Tadcaster looked to be cruising when Alfie completed his hat-trick early in the second half. However complacency and poor discipline allowed Wiggington right back into the match and in the end Tadcaster shaded the win 5-4 thanks to James’ late goal.

Man of the Match: Justin – quietly got on with his job. Excellent positional play and some great defensive tackling. Well done Justin !

Leeds United Academy and Open Trials 2008

Many congratulations to Saul G and Joel B who have been retained for another term at Leeds Utd's Thorpe Arch Academy. Saul is training with the Under 8's Goalkeeping Squad and Joel is training with and playing for the Under 10's/Under 11's 'Elite Squad'.

Both of these players are subject to a rolling 5/6-week evaluation period at the end of which they are either promoted to the Academy First Team, retained in the Elite Squad or sent back to a Development Centre. This is a particular achievement for Joel who is now in his second year at Thorpe Arch. Joel was scouted at Otley Tournament in 2006 when he depped for the Under 8's. Since passing through the Under 9's 2007 Development Centre in the shortest possible time and in his period at Thorpe Arch, Joel has always played in his age group or above. Leeds Utd are holding 'Open Trials' (for players not lucky enough to have been spotted in tournaments or league games) in March. The cost of this is £30 and Leeds are looking for goalkeepers and outfield players aged 7 to 11.

Under 10's at Tadcaster Leisure Centre

Unfortunately, we have received complaints about the conduct of players waiting to use the facilities at Tadcaster Leisure Centre for Friday night training. This is disappointing given that the Staff at the Leisure Centre have been more than generous both in the heavy discount in cost they have passed on for the use of the facilities and by allowing us to 'block-book' until the Spring. The alternative is we return to outside training at Riverside with all that entails.

Please don't leave your child unattended in the reception area of the Centre. Our insurance only covers the players when a Coach is in attendance. On Friday night, some players were dropped outside the door/in the entrance. Please wait with your child, making sure that he/she doesn't hinder the progress of any paying customers of the Leisure Centre. We would rather retain this valuable facility - not just for our current age-group, but for all of the other junior football teams within Tadcaster Albion.

Under 10's Half-Term Hi-Jinks.

Thanks to everyone who turned out at The Ings today for our 'mini-tournament' - the players thoroughly enjoyed themselves and the parents were enthusiastic in their task of clearing the pitch from the flood debris(!). We were especially pleased to welcome scouting staff from Leeds & York who have asked some of the players to attend their Academies/Development Centres.

Tad Albion U8s ‘v’ York Cubs (3rd Feb)

U8 Yellow Team Match Report

1st Game report
York Cubs 0 – 3 Tadcaster Albion
Scorers: Harry, James, o.g.
The Yellow team lined up for the first game with Alfie in goal; Emily and Joseph defence; James and Megan in midfield; Harry up front.
Tadcaster moved up to 3rd place in their league with another fantastic team display. On a bitterly cold day on the Knavesmire, Tadcaster’s overall effort and determination was the main contributing factor in a well-deserved win.
After an early scare at the back, Tadcaster took the lead with a fine goal from Harry – racing clear of the defence and slotting home. On the defensive front, Tadcaster were, again, superb. Emily and Joseph at the back along with Megan and James in midfield kept the York Cubs chances to a minimum meaning that Alfie was largely untroubled in goal. Harry and James also linked up superbly throughout the match and on another day Tadcaster could have been four or five up by half time. As it was, Tadcaster had to be content with their slender half time lead. Half time score: York Cubs 0, Tadcaster 1.
Sam and Justin replaced Emily and Megan for the second half. Again, Tadcaster looked the most likely to score and they did double the midway though the half when the goalkeeper unluckily fumbled James’ wicked corner into his own net. Soon after, James got his name onto the score sheet when his shot somehow crept in at the near post from the narrowest of angles. Final score: York Cubs 0, Tadcaster Albion 3.

2nd Game report
York Cubs 0 – 2 Tadcaster Albion
Scorers: Alfie, James

The line up for the second game was Megan in goal; Justin and Emily in defence; James, Joseph and Sam in midfield; Harry and Alfie up front.
A goal in each half from James and Alfie sealed the win in a scrappy game played 8-a-side in order to try and keep everybody involved. Again, Tadcaster were determined not to be beaten and the win was thoroughly deserved.

Man of the Match: James – fantastic display. Created chances, scored goals, lots of tracking back to defend. Well done James !

Man of the Match (1st game) - Steven
Man of the Match (2nd game) - James
