Bishopthorpe 'v' Tad Albion U10s (27th September)

'A' Team Match Reports

Bishopthorpe 1 – 1 Tadcaster Albion
Squad: Alfie, Ethan, George, Jack, James, Scott, Tom
Scorers: James

Tadcaster Albion made the short trip over to Bishopthorpe hoping to maintain their excellent early season form.
The first half started at a frantic pace and that combined with a rock hard pitch, meant that the quality of football suffered. It certainly didn’t affect the excitement though as play switched from end to end and both defenses struggled to cope with high balls. Alfie had to be alert and as brave as ever rushing out to save on a couple of occasions and Jack rattled the Bish crossbar with a high looping effort. It was amazing really that it took until the end of the first half before the opening goal – the first real quality piece of play. Tom drove up the middle beating 2 players before passing out wide for James to riffle the ball into the net.
The second half was a mirror of the first. End to end play and absolute total commitment from both teams. Taddy rattle the woodwork twice more, but it was Bishopthorpe who completed the scoring when the Taddy defence was deceived by a high bouncing ball which left Alfie with no chance.
Having struck the woodwork 3 times, Taddy can count themselves unlucky not to have nicked all the points, but to be truthful a draw was a fair result.
Man of the Match: Alfie – Showed what a great ‘keeper he his with a couple of excellent first half saves.

2nd Game report
Bishopthorpe 1– 1 Tadcaster Albion
Squad: Alfie, Ethan, George, Jack, James, Scott, Tom
Scorers: James

Two very tired teams lined up for the second game and once again positions were swapped around for the friendly match. Tom and Scott seemed to be having some sort of “who can get away with the most blatant handball in our own area” competition (won by Tom for his 2-handed effort). To be honest though, all the boys put so much into the first match that they might have been better just calling it a day.
The stand-out players were Alfie (fair enough as he’d been stood in goal for all of the first match) and George who showed real hunger to get on the score sheet again (and came really close to doing that).
As for the action, well … Bishopthorpe scored first; we equalised when their ‘keeper couldn’t deal with James’ corner.
Man of the Match: George – see comment above.

TAJFC v Pock Predators (Acaster Steel Cup)

TAJFC U12's received a salutatory lesson today about finishing from Division 1 dynamos - Pocklington Predators. In the first round of the Acaster Steel Cup, Tad met PP's on their home pitch. Starting line-up was Josh J, Matty, Joel, Paul, Joe, Ollie P, Macca, Ollie W, Hazza, Craig & John. Sam C was ill with a raging temperature and Josh J manfully stepped up at short notice.
TAJFC had the best of the play in the first 15 mins and it looked for a while that the 2 divisions difference between these sides would be overcome......however PP had some excellent strikers and scored 2 stunning goals in quick succession on 17 and 18 mins. TAJFC fought back, but conceded again just before half-time. George, Angus and Adam swapped with Ollie P, Joe S and Ollie W, but (repeating the pattern that happen in the first half), PP scored 2 screamers on 34 and 36 mins. TAJFC battled valiantly with Hazza, Joel, Craig and Macca maximising their workrate.A penalty was awarded when Joel was brought down, but was unfortunately missed when Paul took out a pigeon flying at 30 feet. For almost half an hour play was deadlocked with a couple of missed chances at either end. PP got their last goal on 58 mins and Hazza made a new friend(!).
As their league position shows, Pocklington were a very skillful side, with great finishing and (like Harrods) had quality in all departments. The Pock manager Joe was very complimentary about TAJFC and wished us well in the League, Plate and Cup. Men Of The Match were Josh J for an outstanding and committed performance and Paul for his inestimable work rate, tenacity and skill under pressure - well done (despite the scoreline). Thanks again to parents for helping out and conducting the raffle. Training as normal on Friday. Last shout for Registration Fees. Get Well Soon Sam!

Joel - 59 mins

Man Of The Match was Ollie W for his sterling and stirring work in defence.
Housekeeping: Spoke to the players today to tell them that we are in the happy position of getting record attendances for Training and Matches. This means that one squad member each week is likely to get a 'phone call telling them to have a rest day. I'll be keeping an accurate record of this (and each player's appearances) so that, as far as possible and subject to outside activities, fitness and ability, everyone will get an equitable opportunity. Thanks to Hamish and his parents for being understanding about this on this occasion.
Christmas Party (what already?) - is booked for Saturday 19th December 2009 and will be a joint event with the Under 11's and any TABlues players that want to attend. More detail to follow - priced to please!
Many thanks for all of the help and support from Parents - Training is as normal on Friday.

Brooklyn 'v' Tad Albion U10s (13th September)

'A' Team Match Reports

Brooklyn 0 – 3 Tadcaster Albion
Squad: Ethan, George, Jack, James K, James O, Saul, Scott
Scorers: Jack (2), James O

It was a long haul over to Norton for Tadcaster Albion’s first away game of the season against newly promoted side Brooklyn.
The Albion played the first half up the 1 in 4 gradient, but despite the obvious disadvantage they looked the better side from the start. Scott and George were rock solid at the back to such an extent that Saul had very little to do in the first period. The midfield pairing of Ethan and James worked extremely hard; as did Jack and ‘t other James up front. It wasn’t all graft though; at times Taddy played some fantastic football. None more so than when a swift attack encompassing 5 or 6 passes took them ¾ of the length of the pitch and very nearly brought the break through. As it was though, the half ended goal-less and with Taddy looking forward to playing down The Hahnenkamm in the second half.
The optimism was well founded as sustained pressure from Taddy was rewarded with the opening goal – James O scoring from the narrowest of angles (was there a hole in the side of the net James?). Taddy couldn’t capitalize though and from midway through the half (or what should have been midway – see later for details) the home side had their best period and put Tadcaster under a fair bit of pressure. Full credit Taddy though for staying strong and determined to hang on to their lead. Having played 18 minutes (of a scheduled 15 minutes) the ref announced that there would be an additional 5 minutes play !?@*@!?! Things could have got ugly, had it not been for 2 superb nails in the coffin from Jack - just reward for consistently chasing and harrying the defence. Eventually the ref did blow the whistle to relief and smiles all round (from us) and nobody please mention the timekeeping !
Great result and fully deserved. Many thanks for Saul and James O for stepping in and getting stuck in.
Man of the Match: Jack – Never gave the defence a minute and was rewarded eventually with 2 goals.

2nd Game report
Brooklyn 0 – 5 Tadcaster Albion
Squad: George, Jack, James K, Matthew, Sam, Saul, Scott
Scorers: George, James K, Scott (3)

Once again, the side showed their versatility by running out comfortable winners despite everybody playing out of their normal positions. Scott led the line superbly with a fine hat-rick – of which his first (a thunderous strike in off the post) was the goal of the day. James K ran the defence ragged in the second half and was rewarded with a goal. And the scoring was rounded off when finally, halleluiah, praise be, get in my son … George stuck the ball in the onion bag - their onion bag (‘cos it doesn’t count when he sticks it in ours!).
Superb performance. Well done to Matthew, Sam and Saul for stepping in to the team and helping out.
Man of the Match: Scott – If you score a hat-trick and don’t get man of the match there must be something wrong. Well done. (If we could clone him and have 1 Scott at the back and 1 Scott up front we would be awesome. Not in midfield though, ‘cos he’s rubbish in midfield.)

TA Blues 0 - TAJFC 4 (U12's)

This seasons' first local derby took place at the Ings today when Tad Albion Blues played host to TAJFC. There was a palpable "dentist waiting room" feeling in the air, as the schoolmates and classmates met under a grey sky. Starting line-up for TAJFC was John, Ollie W, Adam, Sam, Hazza, Joel, Matty, Paul, Josh J, Joe and Hamish
Play was equally matched (and equally nervous) for the first 10 mins until Joel managed to put one past the Blues rock-solid defence. Many chances came from both sides with Hazza, Sam, Ollie W and Adam working very hard at the final third of the pitch. Matty, Paul, Hamish, Josh J and Joe tried to position the ball but were frequently thwarted by tight marking from Nick D's lads. Joel had a further breakthrough bringing the score to 2-0 at half time when he passed his Captain's armband to Hazza and was substituted by Ollie P. George swapped places with Ollie W who had had a fine half.
TAJFC had more chances in the second half and could have increased their margin quicker if not for some top quality goalkeeping from the Blues' Jay D. A few excellent corners from Hamish resulted in a superb goal from Josh J. Paul H made way for Joel to return to play in the last 8 mins and the win was capped with his hat-trick.
A really great all-around performance - and a difficult choice for Man Of The Match........; In the end the parents agreed that both Hamish "flying scotsman" and Sam "bites yer legs" should both be awarded. Upwards and onwards - and in the words of our SuperKeeper's Dad "Happy Days".
Training as normal next week.

Tad Albion U10s 'v' Easingwold (6th September)

'A' Team Match Reports

Tadcaster Albion 3 – 0 Easingwold
Squad: Alfie, Ethan, George, Jack, James, Scott, Tom
Scorers: Jack (2), Tom

Tadcaster Albion kicked off their season with a home game against newly promoted Easingwold, hoping to transfer some promising pre-season training form into their first league match.

An entertaining start to the game saw some good football from both sides. Tadcaster were as solid as ever in defense and midfeld, but their attacking play was almost unrecognisable from the previous season when confidence and goals dried up completely. With a brisk wind at their backs, Taddy started to get the upper hand; showing some real quality passing and movement going forward. Several half chances went begging before Jack eventually got the break through from close range to send the home team into the break with the lead they deserved.

The first half was good, but the second half was even better. Tadcaster looked very sharp and when they moved the ball about it was just too much for the opposition. Tom rifled in a fantastic free kick to double the lead and Jack rounded things off.

This was a great display and a wonderful way to start the season. It was a joy to see the confidence building within the team as the match developed and especially towards the end when, to be honest, Easingwold were run ragged.
Man of the Match: Tom - For a tireless display and a cracking free kick.

2nd Game report
Tadcaster Albion 4 – 1 Easingwold
Squad: Alfie, Ethan, George, Jack, James, Scott, Tom
Scorers: Alfie (2), James, Scott

Despite numerous positional changes, the team carried on from where they left off in the first game. If anything they dominated this match even more, but to be fair to Easingwold, they will be a much tougher proposition once they get used to the pace of division 1 football.
Once again the dubious goals committee was called upon to decide the scorer of the first goal. After much pressure and a little bit of bribery, James was indeed credited with the opener. He then turned provider as he laid the ball off for Scott to smash in number two. Easingwold got a deserved goal back early in the second half, but Taddy soon restored their advantage through Alfie. Scoring was completed with the goal of the game when a flowing move starting from inside Taddy’s own half was rounded off in style as Aflie hammered the ball into the roof of the net.
Man of the Match: James – Scored the first, set up the second, then played great in defence.

TAJFC 5 - Wilberfoss 5 (Under 12's)

TAJFC U12's opened the 2009-2010 season in creditable style with a goal-packed game against Wilberfoss Mavericks. The starting line-up was Matty, Joel, Paul, Josh J, Ollie P, Macca, Ollie W, Hazza, new defender Craig, Sam and John B in goal.

TAJFC were quickly off the mark with 2 goals in quick succession.
Wilberfoss found their shape and managed to pull back against the run of play. The first half ended 3-3 with 2 goals from a fresh-faced Paul H(!)
Joe S, Adam and new star signing Hamish came on in the second half and TAJFC were desperately unlucky not to put the game to bed with excellent linking play.

Final score 5-5. Excellent perfomance from all involved and more importanly - 100% effort and enjoyment. MOTM - The Whole Team.
Many thanks from all of the parents and players to our new kit sponsor 'Ye Old Sun Deli' at Colton. Thanks again Kelly & Ashley McCarthy.
