Here are the league positions for the Under 10's A & B Teams as of 23rd March 2008. We have 2 games to go - Mick will be confirming the dates of the remaining games very soon. Our projected positions are the end of the season are a significant improvement on last years finishing spots and a testament to the grit and determination put in by our players. With tournaments coming up during the Spring & Summer months and Tadcaster Riverside Albion's famous BBQ on the horizon (along with the Junior Club's Presentation Day) there is a lot to look forward to in the coming weeks.

The A team move from 6th to Joint 5th in the league with every possibility of achieving 3rd by the end of the season. The B team are 4th and currently the ONLY unbeaten team in the league this season with every possibility of achieving runners up in the league.

A reminder to all that there is NO TRAINING on Saturday 22nd March & Saturday 29th March. The next time we meet will be at Heworth on 5th April, we have been invited for hotdogs in the clubhouse after the game. Our final game of the season is at home to Fulford on 6th April.

Have a great Easter but don't eat too many Easter Eggs, we have everything to play for in our final 2 games!

U8 Yellow Team Match Report

1st Game report
Copmanthorpe 0 – 2 Tadcaster Albion
Scorers: Harry, James
The Yellow team lined up for the first game with Alfie in goal; Emily and Joseph defence; James and Megan in midfield; Harry up front.
In cold windy conditions (why is every Sunday like that?) Tadcaster struggled to stamp their authority on a game they could (and should) have won comfortably. From the first whistle Tadcaster had nearly all of the possession and much of it was in the opposition half. However it was towards the end of the first half before they got the breakthrough. From a free kick well outside the area, James unleashed a terrific shot which crashed off the underside of the bar and appeared to cross the line before bouncing out. The Copmanthorpe players were rooted to the spot, allowing Harry put the ball into the back of the net. But who scored - James or Harry? Fortunately, Companthorpe’s cutting edge goal line technology (the bald bloke called Norm stood next to the goal) confirmed that the original free kick had crossed the line.
Justin and Daniel replaced Emily and Megan for the second half. Again, Tadcaster made hard work of it and some of the positional play wasn’t great, but they never looked like losing the game. Mid-way through the second half, James picked out a great run from Harry with a lovely pass and with only the ‘keeper to beat Harry made no mistake. Tadcaster had chances to increase the lead but it wasn’t to be and the game finished with a comfortable 2-0 win.
This was another solid team performance and it sees Tadcaster move up into second place in the league – level on points with Heworth, but losing out on goal difference. That’s a fantastic position to be in and two more wins will guarantee a top two finish which would be … well ... fantastic. Let’s go for it!

Man of the Match: Alfie. Great goalkeeping again - very quick to come off his line and clear the ball. Well done Alfie!


2nd Game report
Copmanthorpe 2 – 1 Tadcaster Albion
Scorers: Saul
The line up for the second game was Megan in goal; Daniel and Emily in defence; Saul, Joseph and Justin in midfield; Alfie and Adam up front.
Tadcaster has an absolute shocker in the first half. Whether it was the windy conditions or the fact that it was 8 a-side, they struggled to make a single pass and probably tackled each other more than the opposition. Copmanthorpe scored twice and Tadcaster trudged off at half time looking very sorry for themselves.
After ‘a bit of a talking to’ at half time there was a distinct improvement in the second half and Saul pulled a goal back after a great run with a super finish. But in the end it was just one of those games that are best forgotten.

Man of the Match: Saul – showed great determination and deserved his goal. Well done Saul !

Next Match is away at Copmanthorpe on Sunday 16th March. Kick off is 11am, please meet at Riverside at 10am or 10:30am at the away ground.
Training has had to be cancelled this weekend due to personal/work commitments. In addition, there is no match / training over the Easter weekend. Training commences again on Saturday 29th March.

The Under 10's A & B Team are playing the previously postponed match against Norwich Union on Sunday 16th March.

Kick-off is 10:30am - Meet down at Riverside at 9:40am.

1st Game Report
Tadcaster Albion 0-6 Poppleton
Scorers:
This was always going to be a tough task for the Tadcaster team made up of Saul, George, Ethan, James Oliver, Sam, Edan and Adam. Playing the league leaders with a slightly weakened team proved to be a tough task as the visitors ran out 6-0 winners.
Man of the Match: Ethan.



2nd Game Report
Tadcaster Albion 2-1 Poppleton
Scorers: Harry(2)
The friendly game was a much different story as Tadcaster strengthened the blue team - Saul, George, Joseph, Ethan, Harry, James King and James Oliver. An outstanding effort saw Tadcaster shade the first half 1-0 and despite being pegged back after the break and weathering a lot of poppleton pressure, Tadcaster ran out 2-1 winners thanks to Harry's second goal of the game.

1st Game report
Tadcaster Albion 1 – 0 Poppleton
Scorers: Harry
Tadcaster lined up for the first game with Alfie in goal; Emily and Joseph in defence; James and Megan in midfield; Harry up front.
This was the big one! A win against the league leaders would open up the ‘B’ division and maybe nerves were the cause of Tadcaster’s slow start. The wobbles didn’t last long though and Tadcaster started to rise to the challenge. Alfie looked assured in goal, with Emily and Joseph strong and solid at the back. In addition Joseph’s continued improvement and willingness to attack (a little too willing sometimes!) provided the team with options going forward. James, Megan and Harry ran their socks off as usual and their readiness to get back and defend typifies the team spirit. It has to be said that both teams contributed to a fantastic match, and despite the lack of clear chances in the first half, the play was as exciting and entertaining as anything we’ve seen this season.
Daniel and Justin replaced Emily and Megan for the second half. Both substitutes played their parts with Daniel making several great tackles, and Justin putting in a performance that was an absolute revelation. His boundless energy lifted the team and provided the platform allowing James and Harry to take the game to Poppleton. Tadcaster were increasing in confidence and had Poppleton on the back foot on a number of occasions, but still neither side created any clear cut chances. This match was destined to be one of the most exciting 0-0 draws ever, when Tadcaster pulled in out of the bag again with another late, late show. James’ persistence saw him drive down the right before getting in a good, high cross. The ‘keeper couldn’t quite hold on to it and when the ball dropped, Harry was in the perfect position on the goal line to fire in possibly his easiest, but most important goal of the season.
It might seem repetitive, but the team spirit and determination within this group of players is immense. They attack as a team, defend as a team and most importantly, they just never give up.
Man of the Match: James – tireless running throughout the match, both in attack and defence. Well done James !

2nd Game report
Tadcaster Albion 2 – 3 Poppleton
Scorers: Justin, Sam
The line up for the friendly game was Megan in goal, Emily and Daniel in defence; Edan, Adam and Justin in midfield; Alfie up front. (Sam started on the bench, with rolling subs every 3 or 4 minutes).
A poor start saw Tadcaster 2-0 down within the first 4 minutes. After that though, things did improve, with Justin having an absolutely outstanding game. He had already gone close to scoring, before firing in a great shot from the edge of the area (his first ever goal!).
Tadcaster started the second half believing they could win, and Alfie’s ability to hold on to the ball caused lots of problems for the Poppleton defenders. Edan came close to levelling the scores, but in the end it was Sam who latched on to a loose ball in the area and notch his first goal for the club. Tadcaster couldn’t quite hang on to the lead though and a very Poppleton late goal settled the match in their favour. A disappointing result, because Tadcaster deserved more, but overall a fantastic performance.

Man of the Match: Sam – played really well and thoroughly deserved his goal. Let’s hope there’s lots more to come. Well done Sam !

RIVERSIDE ALBIONS V POPPLETON PANTHERS .


1st game

With an unusual start to the game playing our friendly first due to poppletons shortage of players . We lent them 2 of our players Eddie and George who both played well and with commitment to poppleton which was very admirable for both of them.We went on with all the fight of a league game and was soon the leading team with an amazing goal from Becky from a tight angle with a brilliant finish showing everyone just why she is captain . The second goal was an opportunist goal from Jay placed in the back of the net with his left foot (not bad for a goaly).The 3rd goal with a sweet shot and good finish came from Matty Jewitt making it a 3 /0 win .

Or should we say people were Becky and Harry Jackson both for their continued fight never tiring and showing true grit in both games when both took some heavy tackles .



2ND GAME

This was to prove a bit more challenging after playing so hard in the first game and then poppleton been added to by a couple of the first team players . It started off quite tense with poppleton defiantly benefiting from the addition of the new players . at times it was close between both teams. We had quite a few shots on goal and none managing to find the back of the net which as spectators leads to jangled nerves . Then in the second half Stephen took a long run down the left wing and placed it in the back of the net . (much to the relief of everyone on the touch line ).It looked like poppleton were going to score 3 Min's before the final whistle when a shot on goal was saved by Jay showing his vast improvement as our goal keeper reaching up and pushing it over the bar . All the team played well and showed just what they can do and kept their 4Th win in a row . well done to everyone you made me a very proud coach today lets keep it going.

U8 Yellow Team Match Report

1st Game report
Woodthorpe 0 – 1 Tadcaster Albion
Scorers: Alfie
The Yellow team lined up for the first game with Justin in goal; Emily and Joseph defence; Harry and Megan in midfield; Alfie up front.
Tadcaster started the match confidently and they were rewarded early on with a goal from Alfie. Harry looked full of running and a mazy run through the Woodthorpe defence resulted in a penalty after a mistimed tackle in the area. Alfie stepped up to take the spot kick, but didn’t connect properly and the ‘keeper saved comfortably. At the other end, Emily and Joseph were never really troubled – helped by good defensive work from the midfield pair of Harry and Megan. As the half wore on, Tadcaster continued to dominate and had several chances to extend their lead, however desperate defending by the home side kept the Tadcaster lead to a single goal.
Sam and Daniel replaced Emily and Megan for the second half. Again, Tadcaster looked the most likely to score, and really should have finished off the home side. Great play between Harry and Alfie saw them create chance after chance, but they never quite got away from the last defender. As time started to run out, Woodthorpe pushed forward looking for the equaliser, but throughout the whole match, Justin didn’t really have a proper shot to save and the match ended with another narrow win for Tadcaster.

Man of the Match: Harry. Played his best game for a few weeks and looked full of running throughout – keep up the good work. Well done Harry !


2nd Game report
Woodthorpe 1 – 1 Tadcaster Albion
Scorers: Alfie
The line up for the second game was Harry in goal; Daniel and Emily in defence; Megan, Joseph and Sam in midfield; Alfie up front.
Again Tadcaster took the lead in the first half – the ball broke out from defence after a strong blocking tackle from Daniel. Alfie chased the retreating defender and nicked it off him before poking it past the ‘keeper for a great goal. Again, Tadcaster could have won comfortably, but lacked the killer instinct in front of goal. In the end an equaliser late in the second half was probably just reward from some good pressure by Woodthorpe - and a warning to Tadcaster to put their chances away when they get them.

Man of the Match: Daniel – great effort. His best ever game for Tadcaster. Well done Daniel !

Tad Albion U10's (A Team) vs Huntington (Match Report)

Great win for the A Team against Huntington today. Good linking play from Joel B, Harry H and finally Jamie G resulted in an early goal from Jamie G.

Tad sat back for a while and were lucky not to conceed against 'in form' Huntington. Mick switched on his hairdryer at half time (on a medium setting!) and the lads battled valiantly to win 2-0.

Next week's Mothering Sunday Cup game against Old Malton has been re-arranged but training will continue as normal.

We are hoping to have the cooking facilities back on in the Clubhouse in time for our home game against Poppleton Panthers on 9th March (the clocks go back that weekend - hurray!).

Final note - we are currently trying to get permission to hold our Tournament on the Ings which means we need to be vigilant in our behaviour towards the householders by the pitch. Please don't park near the gate - you should aim to park at the large car park behind the ground - and please don't clean your boots on the road leading to the Ings or bash them against the householder's walls.
