Training re-starts on Friday 2nd January 2009 at Tadcaster Leisure Centre 5:50pm - 7pm for TAJFC and TAB. Subs are due (some have already paid me, thanks) - I'll have a list of amounts due on Friday.
TAJFC players have generally been paying in advance and we have almost had a 100% turnout every week (again-thank you!) We have to 'block book' the Sports Hall so Tadcaster Albion Blues need to pay Nick Devine £4 (plus any previous amounts owed) at the Blues match on Sunday 4th January.

Ulleskelf Tournament TBC
As you can see it's a packed programme! - We did our very best to accommodate clashes with Scouts and School in 2008 - Could I respectfully request that TAJFC/TABlues are given priority (as much as possible) as we go into the final part of the season. TAJFC have a real possibility of being Division Champions this year which would be a massive achievement for a club whose "player pool" has been split and is consequently fielding two Under 11's Teams. I've already been notified of a Scout activity on 3rd/4th January - if this effects you could you please email me as soon as possible on nickbrown@btinternet.com or ring on 07778 993896. It's too late for us to postpone the Poppleton game on the 4th Jan so we will have to play it regardless of numbers - we just need to know so that we can plan accordingly.
As always, if you have any constructive feedback - please feel free to get in touch at anytime via the details above.
Finally, tickets to the Valentine's Party (Adults) are selling rapidly - I'll be bringing tickets with me to Training on Friday. It's a fundraiser for Junior Football and an excuse to let your hair down (not you Mick!) Full details are here: http://tadcasteralbionjuniors.blogspot.com/2008/12/annual-valentine-party-adults.html

Christmas & New Year Message
"This year has been my 1st as Secretary of the Juniors, we have seen some excellent results across the
age groups, and many of our teams are top of their respective leagues, a proud position to be in at
the end of 2008. Let’s hope this can continue throughout 2009. Our Club is run by enthusiastic
volunteers giving up much of their valuable time, but we wouldn’t have a Junior section if it wasn’t
for the boys and girls who play their hearts out every week, supported by an ever faithful band of
supportive parents who stand in all weather cheering for their sons and daughters. As we go into
another year I would like to thank everyone for their effort, support and contribution during the past
year. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone." - Keith Sawden

Osbaldwick vs TAJFC (U11's)
Perhaps it was the because the match was played in the fading light of the afternoon, or perhaps it was because it followed a long trip to Alton Towers the previous day, but the mighty TAJFC were definitely below their normal standard. After the customary 2 mins silence for Remembrance Sunday the lads fought an epic battle against an Osbaldwick side who looked as though some of them were married with children and had driven themselves to the game. As Sir Alex often says to me - "You can have the best players in the world but sometimes you canne get a break!". Tough tackling, shoulder barges, tripping up of players and "tutting" loudly were all employed by the seasoned Tadcaster team but on this occasion Osbaldwick were just too strong. Man of the Match (Man of The Moment!) was Matty "Raphael" Orr for his tireless work rate - roll on Copmanthorpe at the Ings on Sunday- be afraid, be very afraid.

Tad Albion U9s 'v' Rawcliffe (2nd November)
Tadcaster Albion 2 – 1 Rawcliffe
Squad: Alfie, Charlie, George, Jack, James, Scott, Tom
Scorers: James, Tom
A cold damp November morning greeted the visit of Rawcliffe to Riverside. Tadcaster have never beaten Rawcliffe’s A team, but hopes were high following a good string of results.
Rawcliffe started confidently with some good slick passing in midfield, but without causing any real threat. As the first half evolved Tadcaster began to dominate with strong tackling from Jack and Tom providing the platform for some good spells of possession. Tom was rewarded for his good start when long range effort took a slight defection into the goal and Tadcaster doubled their lead soon after when James fired in from wide on the left. Tadcaster were playing some fantastic football using the full width of the pitch and stretching the Rawcliffe defence on numerous occasions. Tadcaster could (and should) have increased their lead, and they were made to pay when Rawcliffe got themselves back into the game with a viscous swerving shot from well outside the area.
From the start of the second half Tadcaster continued to cause problems for Rawcliffe with James and Jack giving the Rawcliffe defenders a torrid time, but once again Tadcaster couldn’t convert their superiority into goals. In defence, George and Charlie had been largely untroubled up until this point but as the midfield began to tire, they really had to work hard to hold on to the lead. Charlie somehow managed to show his usual composure, and George must have covered more ground in the last 5 minutes than the whole of the preceding game. Between them they limited Rawcliffe to a single shot which Alfie did really well to gather.
This was another great game to watch against a good team who played their part. There was lots to admire in the play from Tadcaster today and the only negatives are that we didn’t close out the match in the first half and also that we left the defence exposed on too many occasions at the end. Something for the manager to ponder before our next game in a fortnight.
Man of the Match: George – Fantastic defensive display.
2nd Game report
Tadcaster Albion 1 – 1 Rawcliffe
Squad: Alfie, Charlie, George, Jack, James, Scott, Tom
Scorers: Jack
With both teams having played the first game without substitutes on a fairly heavy pitch, there were some very tired legs during the second game. The first half didn’t have the same intensity we had witnessed earlier and ended goal-less.
The game sprang into life though when Rawcliffe took the lead early in the second half. As Tadcaster went looking for the equaliser the game became real end to end stuff. Scott performed heroics on a number of occasions scrambling back to defend whilst Tadcaster poured forward trying to get back into the game. In the end it was a sublime goal from Jack which did just that. His pace took him right through the heart of the Rawcliffe defence and the coolest of finishes ensured that honours finished even.
Man of the Match: Scott – great determination in defence.

Under 11's Indoor Training (Nov 2008 - Jan 2009)
Mick & I have been able to negotiate a block-booking (at a substantial discount) with Tadcaster Leisure Centre, for use of the Sports Hall and Upstairs Training Suite.
We will start training at the Leisure Centre from Friday November 7th 2008 until Friday 30th January 2009. We've had to slightly increase the cost of our "Floodlight Surcharge" to £1 per week. So that we can maintain our excellent relations with John, Lynne, Carol, Ronnie, Maurice and the rest of the staff at TLC we would ask that payments are paid monthly (4x£1).
As with the cost of floodlights, I'll be keeping a register of contributions for reference and will have plenty of £1 coins to give out as change next week!
TAJFC are at home this weekend - the pitches are in A1 condition thanks to the efforts of Mr Neil Ward, Mr Ian Turner and Mr Michael Clow (see picture)
TABlues have an away match at Woodthorpe - If both teams win they will meet each other in the next round of the Cup!

Friday Training & TAJFC Match 9th November (U11's)
Friday Training is on Hallowe'en Night - we plan to go ahead as normal and finish for 7pm - thereby giving you plenty of time to 'Trick Or Treat' your neighbours.
We are now using the floodlights every week and make a contribution to Riverside School for the cost. I have received payment from a number of parents which I have diligently logged. For info the weekly cost is 50p. We may move indoors to Tadcaster Leisure Centre when it gets really cold.
TAJFC have a League Match against Osbaldwick scheduled for Sunday 9th November. Having consulted with John Swift from Tadcaster Scouts, there is a Remembrance Sunday Church Parade on the morning of the 9th. It is very important for our team-members who are Scouts to attend this Ceremony and I have contacted Osbaldwick's manager to arrange to play this match later the same day. Obviously this isn't ideal as it may cut into other plans, but it is imperative that we play matches whilst pitches are available and the weather is relatively mild. The fixture is currently an 'away' game but this may change to accommodate the situation. Lifts/Transport will be made available for players who need them if the match takes place in the early afternoon. There MAY be a visit to McDonalds Drive-Thru involved on the way home, but only if you win by a significant margin - watch this space.
See you at Training of Friday - See if you can guess if Mick is wearing a mask or not!

Tad Albion U9s 'v' Pickering (19th October)
Squad: Alfie, Charlie, Ethan, George, Jack, James, Joseph, Sam, Scott, Tom
Scorers: Jack(2), James(2), Tom
Early morning drizzle eased just before kick off to give way to a pleasant mild October Sunday and the first visit of Pickering to Riverside. Tadcaster were looking to put the previous week’s frustrations behind them and the early signs were promising as the home side enjoyed most of the early possession. The Pickering ‘keeper was being kept busy by some good long range shooting before Jack got the breakthrough, firing in from an acute angle. Amazingly though, Pickering pulled level with what must have been their first foray into the Tadcaster half. Tadcaster stuck to the game plan though (there was one, honest!) and were rewarded when Jack ran on to the ball ‘Steven Gerrard-Style’ and struck a sweet half volley which fizzed right into the top corner. James then danced past three Pickering defenders and slotted the ball past the ‘keeper to give Tadcaster a well deserved 3-1 half time lead.
Early in the second half, Tom got his reward for some excellent long range shooting when he found the top corner from well outside the area. It looked like Tadcaster might run away with the match, but once again, against the run of play, Pickering pulled another goal back. In fact if Alfie hadn’t pulled off a great save at 4-2, things might have been tense for the last few minutes. James effectively settled things with another super strike before Pickering completed the scoring in the last minute.
This was a hugely entertaining game and in terms of ‘team play’, a massive improvement on last week. In fact, as I’m writing this, I still can’t quite believe that Pickering scored 3 and that Tadcaster only scored 5 – such was our dominance. There were some great goals today and the scorers will rightly get the plaudits. Credit must also go to Alfie in goal and Charlie, George and Scott in defence who provided the platform for Tadcaster to dominate.
Man of the Match: Jack – Fantastic all round display including the goal of the game.
2nd Game report
Tadcaster Albion 4 – 2 Pickering
Squad: Alfie, Charlie, Ethan, George, Jack, James, Joseph, Sam, Scott, Tom
Scorers: Ethan, James, Sam, Alfie
Tadcaster carried on where they left off in the first game. First half goals from Sam (who looks so happy when he scores I’m sure one day he’s going to literally burst with joy), James and then Ethan gave Tadcaster a commanding 3-0 half time lead.
With a comfortable lead, Charlie, Scott and George were pushed up and they can all count themselves unlucky not to have scored. None of them were as unlucky as Tom though whose goal-bound shot had the ‘keeper beaten all ends up, only to see it ‘saved’ when Alfie couldn’t quite get out of the way. Pickering pulled a goal back before Alfie then had the cheek to score himself. Once again though, the away side had the last say as the game ended 4-2 - great entertainment again. Man of the Match: Tom – a true ‘team player’. Ran himself into the ground today.
TAJFC 6 - Brooklyn 1 (Under 11's)
Housekeeping: We need to be at our matches (home or away) at 10am. Some parents are coming from villages on the A64 and collecting colleagues on the way - if they are marginally late this is understandable, however at yesterday's match players who are in Tacaster, Stutton and Towton turned up at 10:10 after Mick & I had spent 30 mins setting up goals & nets. Also, both Mick & I spent valuable pre-match time doing up 4 sets of bootlaces(!). JJB sell elasticated laces that won't come undone - currently in the sale at £1 a pair. Part of being a succesful team is 'looking the part' - when players trot out on to the hallowed ground they should have laces tied, taped or stapled to the foot, undershirts concealed, socks pulled up and noses wiped....; Breath-fresherners are optional.
