Starting line-up was Charlie, Joel, Macca, Adamski, Oli Log, Paul, Hamish, Hazza, Angus, Sam & John B.

Just to put this game into context, Aviva (previously Norwich Union) had finished 4th in the division above us last year and have been unbeaten all season in this division and have convincingly won all but 2 of their games. Their goal difference was +59 compared to TAJFC's +16.

It was pretty obvious to me as a Coach, that TAJFC were up for it today, with the banter and leg-pulling at an all time high during the warm-up. Tad were in position, sporting their snazzy new away kit and ready to rumble, a full 5 mins before Aviva finished their team talk.

Throughout the first half Tadcaster had about 55% of the possession and continued to test the envelope of the oppositions pace and ability. Aviva had some players who were very skillful on the ball and at 25 mins Tadcaster conceeded. However (and this is where Tadcaster's true grit came to the fore), they didn't crumple or shut up shop and fought back with renewed vigour.

Sam was suffering with a blister so gave way to Jonny W and Charlie swapped with Matty. I didn't alter my instructions at half time and Tadcaster pressed and defended with great fortitude and communication.

20 mins into the second half Joel hassled a fluffed catch from the keeper after Hamish had hit the bar and tucked it away. A few minutes later, benefiting from excellent linking play that involved almost everyone in the team, Joel drew 3 defenders, blind-sided them and slotted home a second. Aviva's heads were down and Tad capitalised on the prevailing mood with Hamish (who had been twisting and turning like a frazzled MP at an expenses tribunal all afternoon) smashed home a 3rd.

Tad players covered each others backs and communicated sublimely. Sam went back on for Paul and Charlie swapped with Macca. Despite a concerted 5 minute spell when Aviva fought back valiantly, Tad capped off a brilliant match with a fourth from 'Mr Raw Meat' himself - Adam B.

An absolutely stunning performance that highlighted the strength of character and level of mutual respect that each player displays. It was very hard to pick a Man of The Match, because (without exception), Matty, Charlie, Joel, Macca, Adam, Oli Log, Hamish,Paul, Jonny, Hazza, Angus, Sam and JB were truly outstanding. We awarded it to Oli Log because of his fantastic work-rate and industry. OUTSTANDING. Special mention to the excellent Referee, Graham Watson who was complimented by Aviva and TAJFC alike.

With a lot of juggling - we are managing to get our fixtures nicely slotted in before we hit the half-term hiatus. Thanks to the parents and players who have been accommodating with this (cancellation of Scout Camps etc). Next week we are away to Aviva 30th Jan, following week to be confirmed and the week after that we are away to Magnets 13th Feb. That then leaves us 4 league games to fit in - great effort everyone! (Further Cup Comp to play + Tournaments).

We are currently 3rd in the League from a total of 11 starting teams.

Rawcliffe v Tadcaster Albion U13

Starting lineup was John B, Sam, Angustini, Paul, Wardy, Hazza, Macca, Hamish, Joel, Matty, Loggy. Sub was Adamski (first half). A 12 man squad had a truly FANTASTIC match against title winners Rawcliffe Warriors at The Bumper Castle on 16th Jan.

Right from kick-off Tadcaster looked composed, assured, communicative and downright classy(!). If the match had been televised by Sky (would have been a better bet than the Man U game), the possession-o-meter would have shown 'Tad 58% - Rawcliffe 42%'. Despite this - Tad got caught short against Rawcliffe's excellent ManMountain centre-back who launched one from 25 yards out that Peter Schmiechel would have struggled against.

Tad fought back with Macca (who was truly excellent) slotting one home after tearing up and down the wing with the urgency of a day-tripper in a Tunisian airport.

The match continued at a breathtaking pace - Tad had learnt the early lesson of keeping the play out on the wings (thanks Mike!). There was overlap, running passes, backhealers and all manner of Hogwarts Study-Leave going on though defence, midfield and attack. Rawcliffe scored again and Hazz coolly slotted home a free-kick (twice in 2 weeks) to bring the scores level at half time.

Sam had sustained an injury, so Adamski swapped with Paul and Paul dropped in to right-back.
It was literally 'end to end' for 30 mins, with Rawcliffe bringing on and taking off myriad subs. Paul got a nasty knock to the knee and Sam came back on (we only had 12 players).

In the dying minutes, Sam fairly tackled a Rawcliffe player who managed to finish his dramatic fall within the penalty area. Despite John's best effort (he was also on stunning form all afternoon) Rawcliffe went 3-2 up from the spot. There were some tired legs and as we didn't have a substitution option, Rawcliffe capitalised on this and scored another with 2 mins to go.

A great performance despite the score. It seems that those dark, rainy, sub-zero nights of training and playing small-sided games might be paying off at a crucial part of the season.

Joint Man of The Match - Macca (who was brought down more times than a kitten with 'Fainting Goat Syndrome') and John B (totally courageous!).

Big Shout Out to Charlie and Johnny W (who both manfully volunteered to have the week off) - Huntington be afraid. See you at Training!

Great team performance, with goals from Charlie, Oli Loggy, and Joel. Man of The Match (for consistently thinking on his feet and improving his performance week on week) was Ollie W.

Taking into account the amount of players who are out of action through injury, our current position of 4th in the League with 3 games in hand over Aviva and 2 games in hand over Copmanthorpe is very creditable indeed. Obviously the decision we took to play against teams that would push us hard and lift our overall standard of play was the right one......Well Done Lads.

POPPLETON U7’S v TADCASTER ALBIONS U7’S

The first games of the season started with mixed results at Poppleton. Team Yellow got off to a good start with a long range effort from Nathan to make it 1-0. Other than Tom’s effort hitting the post both teams cancelled each other out for the rest of the first half. In the 2nd half Poppleton fought back but great defensive work from Harry and Zeb kept the score at 1-0. A neat passing movement found an un-marked Nathan in the box to score his and Taddy’s second. With time running out Robert made a good tackle in his own half and ran the length of the pitch to cross it to Nathan Heaton to score his hat trick. The game ended 3-0 to Tadcaster. Team Blue must of all been up watching the X Factor til 9 o’clock because they started slowly and found themselves 5-0 down at half time. A few words from the coach (David Broom) at half time saw taddy come out fighting, but good work from Poppleton saw the game end 8-0. Even though 8 was scored against him Charlie played well in goal making 5-6 really good saves as did Luke and Edward in defence. The second round of games a few changes were made to the teams. Team Yellow won their game 2-1 with goals from Dean and Robert. Team Blue drew 1-1 after Poppleton equalised with the last kick of the game. Harry scored Taddy’s goal.

A special thank you to all the player’s mums and dads for braving the weather and helping out on Sunday.

Please note - Paul Hick will have identified the U7's players at today's training session. Younger players will be moving up to this agegroup next year and will be playing in Tournaments later this year. If you have the blue and yellow kit that was handed out a couple of weeks ago, please wear that - I'll bring some spares. Don't forget, boots, shin pads, tracky top and a drink. Great result in our Friendly against Rawcliffe today, especially considering that Rawcliffe went the whole season unbeaten last year and were Division Champions.

Firstly, thanks to those who were able to make it to the First Annual Riverside Tournament yesterday. We had a great day and got in some valuable ‘matchtime’.

Thanks again to Mr M Jackson, who worked tirelessly in the hours prior to kick-off to get the goalposts up (not an easy task!) and to Compo & Clegg who had a ride around in their wheelbarrow.

We’ll be playing Rawcliffe Warriors at home on Sunday 5th September 10:30am.

For those who have them (watch this space, Charlie, Oli & Jamie), please wear your dark blue Parson B training top and blue undershirt for this match. – Thanks.

Training has now moved permanently to 5:50pm – 7:10pm on Friday nights at Riverside School. Lifts to Scouts or destinations up the A64 are available as the nights draw in….;

TAJFC U13's start their season in earnest with a trip out to the beautiful countryside around Harrogate, this coming Sunday 22nd August. We have a match against Beckwithshaw at their ground off Pennypot Lane. The postcode for the ground is HG3 2GA. I would advise the easiest route is to either go through Wetherby and cut across to the Leeds Road in Harrogate or take a slightly longer route up the A1 - exit on the A59 westbound (avoiding Knaresborough) - maps are shown above. Kick-off is a leisurely 1:45pm and we have unlimited subsitutes. Would be great for as many people as possible to make it - especially those who will be away immediately before the first league games. I will have 3 spaces in the limo should anyone require a lift in either direction with Joel and I. Ready to rumble at 1:20pm please. Herewith, Tadcaster Albion U12's final league position relative to those below them.
The most telling statistic is TAJFC's Goal Difference relative to those lower in the table - a respectable +63 versus the next best team having just +4 and the bottom 5 teams on a significant minus. This figure is much better than last year (+38) and something to build on in 2010/2011.
Having taken feedback from parents and coaches from other agegroups, it's evident that the squad/team/planning and coaching methods need only minor adjustments to hit our true potential. More news on next season's plans and the new players who are coming in to strengthen the squad in the coming weeks. Thanks again to Parents, Grandparents, Aunties and Uncles for their help and kind words this season.

Starting lineup was Joe S, Matty, Hamish, Adamski, Hazza, Joel, Ollie P, Ollie W, Paul, Sam and Macca in goal. Last league game of the season was Tadcaster Albion JFC vs Tadcaster Blues played in the rain on the Ings. This was TAJFC's 3rd game in 5 days (plus school "A" Team matches) and the lads showed a bit of fatigue. Play was a little sloppy all over the Park and TAJFC generally operated at about 75% of their maximum capacity. That said, there was was some excellent runs down both wings with Hamish playing like a gazelle that's had a Cherry Coke for breakfast.
TAJFC prowled Tad Blues' half of the pitch looking for an opening and found it when Joe scored the opener. TAJFC (despite a fair few lapses of concentration) took the measure of the opposition and bore down on them scoring 5 goals before the break (including the first of the season from full-back Sam)
Joe, Ollie W and Paul gave way to Josh J, Craggers and Angus in the second half and Tad Blues had a good spell where they threatened TAJFC's dominance of the game, however the work rate from Adam and Hazza in mid-field effectively galvanised the Blues' surge.
Through a long and wet second half TAJFC scored a further 4 goals, Joe swapped with Matty and Joel (who had waltzed past the Blues' defence and scored 3 in quick succession) went in goal to let Macca have a run out in midfield (we could hear the puffing and panting 50 yards away)
A final goal was scored in the last 5 mins taking the score to 10-0. Enormous credit must be given to The Blues who never once let their heads go down and looked as fresh and enthusiastic at the end of the game as they had at the start. Man Of The Match was voted for by the players and deservedly went to Hamish. Man Of The Match for the Blues was (equally deservedly) Matty J. Special mention to Joe (hat-trick!) who has found his shooting boots just in time for the Tournaments. Apologies for not listing all of the goals, my clipboard got wet. Haxby Town 1 - 3 Tadcaster Albion U12's

Starting line-up was Josh J, Matty, Hamish, Joe S, Hazza, Joel, Ollie P, Paul, Angus, Craggers and Macca in goal. Perhaps it was the strenuous efforts against Rawcliffe the previous day or the alignment of the planets, but Tad looked distinctly jaded in the first 20mins of a game we should have walked. Mis-communication, fluffed sitters, trance-like tackling and ill-discipline led to Haxby taking the lead in the middle of the first half. Luckily for Tadcaster, one of their players took the game by the scruff of the neck and turned it around with an outstanding goal (and a further goal disallowed) The same player constantly tracked back and on more that two occasions got our defence out of jail. Half-time score was 1-1. Hairdryer plugged in.

Joe S, Ollie P and Craggers gave way to Adamski, Ollie W and Sam. The workrate improved after the team talk, with Adam, for example, getting into his groove (man). Josh J gave way to Joe S on 42 minutes and chance after chance rained in from the right wing until Harry (midfield) converted an inch-perfect cross from Joel with a fantastic header.

Despite being barged, tripped and having his shirt pulled time after time, Joel kept his composure, played out of skin and went on to score again. Tad pressed hard in the last 15 mins and should have converted a further 4-5 excellent chances. Hopefully, the players (and Manager) involved in today's 'jailbreak' should have learnt some valuable lessons. Man Of The Match - Joel.

After a ton of ringing around, speaking to the league secretary, speaking to opposing managers and checking pitch availability we can confirm:-

Starting line-up was Paul (in goal!), Ollie W, Ollie P, Craggers, Sam, Hamish, Adamski, Hazza, Joel, Matty & Joe. At Pocklington's request, we had pressed on with this fixture despite having John B, Macca, Josh J and Angus absent. Unfortunately, Pock's staff were of the view that some of their players had forgotten to alter their clocks...; After waiting patiently until 10:43am, the referee (who was also reffing the match immediately after ours on the same pitch) asked for the game to kick off. In the confusion and against the run of play Pocklington scored first following mis-communication between our defenders and keeper. To Tad's credit (and a fair bit of shouting from me!) TAJFC regained their shape and focus and soon got back into the game with goals in the following order, , Joe, Matty, Hazza, Matty, HALF TIME, Matty, Matty, Matty, Adamski, Joel and Joel. Pock managed to pull another back whilst everyone was asleep on 50 mins. A good win, which was only slightly marred by the amount of sitters that were missed(!) and the £18 matchball being stolen....; Man Of The Match - Paul H. - stepped up when the chips were down (if I'm not mixing metaphors) - Well done!

We are having our 'Sport Relief' Event down at Tadcaster Albion Stadium (by the Ings) on Sunday Afternoon 21st March. Doors open from approx 12pm and events start at approx 12:30pm. Each team/agegroup will have a penalty shoot out against their Coach/Manager.

£1 for each player to enter on the day which entitles the player to hotdog/chips in the Clubhouse.

Managers who are on The Ings - Please tell your opposing teams before the day so that they are aware and have their £1 with them - they are welcome to join us!

We'd like as many people as possible to come down and support the event - the U19's are playing at 1:30pm so there should be a good game to watch too (with a bit of argy-bargy if previous games have been anything to go by!) - Make an afternoon of it and lets raise a few quid.

Old Malton 0 - TAJFC 2

Starting line-up was Macca, Wardy, Adam, Hazza, Joel, Matty, Paul, Ollie P, Josh, Craggers, and Hamish. TAJFC's performance against this opposition was much more composed and organised than in our previous meetings and Tad looked the better team from the get-go; However, OMSM defended well and their keeper was very cool under pressure. Chance after chance rained in from the wings and mid-field until Josh managed to convert. Within 5 mins of the goal, Josh took a nasty scrape to the Achilles tendon and Sam came on (and showing great initiative) swapped positions with Hazza. Paul came off at half time, we reverted to 4-4-2, Angus slotted into mid-field with Hazza and Matty playing up front. In a similar to manner to the first half, excellent chances weren't effectively converted (though not through lack of effort!). A second goal came from Matty after he'd been knocking on the door like a sociopath thesaurus salesman. Shortly afterwards OMSM's frustration bubbled to the surface with a nasty tackle to Hamish and a full "studs up" on Joel on the centre line. It is worth noting that today was the only 2 times this season that I have had to waddle on to the pitch because of injury - a reflection of the strength and skill of our players. Matty picked up a bit of a strain and Paul replaced him for the remaining 10 mins. The Ref blew for full time dead on 30mins. Honourable mention to Macca who made a superb save and to his Grandma who conducted the warm-up. I asked the players to vote on MOTM because it was too difficult to choose - well done to Hamish. Excellent team performance. Three more league games, one (or more) cup games plus three tournaments to come. More details regarding training, Sport Relief and coming fixtures in the next few days - however it's a 90% certainty that training will be on Thursday night because of Year 10 Parents Evening at TGS on Wednesday. WELL DONE.

As this result shows, it was an excellent team performance. Our keeper kept a clean sheet, our defence was rock solid (have a look at the goal difference in the league to see just how good they have become).....our midfield was outstanding and facilitated the high score and the finishing from the forwards was top class. Overall a true team performance with much better levels of communication. Well done to Josh for emptying his Grandma's purse!. Man of the Match was Hazza - who never fails to give 100% week after week and doesn't grumble that he doesn't get to play in the 'glamourous' positions (well not much anyway). Let's keep it rolling - Rawcliffe next week - don't forget, we are the ONLY team not to be beaten by them this season so far. Thanks - enjoy half-term

Starting line-up was Joe, Matty, Josh, Adamski, Joel, Macca, Wardy, Hazza, Craggers, Sam & JB.
Our subs WOULD have been Ollie P & Paul if Ollie P had remembered to bring the right size boots! TAJFC were fully up for it after last week's mangled and mis-cued cup clash against fellow title chasers Rawcliffe Warriors. The promise of chip butties at the end seemed to reverberate through the team like a wave of stifled hysteria. Joe actually asked the ref to hang on whilst he found his emergency ketchup. On Pock's excellent pitch, TAJFC pressed and pressured the opposition relentlessly and during 30 mins Pock only got into the Tad penalty area twice. First half goals came from Josh (5 mins), screamer from Adamski (16 mins), Josh again (22 mins) and Matty on 28 mins. Craggers was suffering from jelly-belly after consuming a Chicken Bhuna following a wild night on the town and was manfully substituted by Paul on 20mins.
Playing against the wind and uphill in the second half, Josh soon found his mark again with a further 2 goals on 35 & 40mins. There was some really superb linking play between Sam, Macca & Joel down the right flank that lead to a goal from Macca on 42mins and a swift follow up came in a similar style with an excellent goal from Matty 60 seconds later. Josh capped off the day with his fifth on 55 mins. The ref must have been feeling the cold because he blew the final whistle at 59:30. Man Of The Match went (for the first time this season - despite being our top goal scorer) to Joel for great skill, strength and vision out on the right. Excellent all-around performance........same again when play them next week, please - goals are vital at this halfway point (Copmanthorpe scored the same amount as us today). See you on Wednesday 6pm. New training kit due this week!

Big thanks to Our Charlie who has provided and organised the delivery of a free 40ft container for shared use by TAJFC and Riverside School. Hard to believe, but Charlie and I lifted this off the low-loader by hand, without breaking a sweat!

The old wooden portakabin is being appraised by the Antiques Roadshow and demolished on Sunday afternoon (1st November). Anyone who is available to help Charlie & I please report to Riverside at 1:30pm with tools.

A fine October morning saw Tadcaster Albion play host to Copmanthorpe down at Riverside.
The same 8 players who performed so heroically against York Cubs on their previous outing were, unfortunately, a long way from that level in this match. Having said that, the first half was fairly evenly balanced with Copmanthorpe taking the lead close to half time when a fairly tame shot somehow squeezed through Alfie’s legs. Had Tadcaster been able to string any sort of passing play together the game was most definitely there for the taking. But too often the ball carrier chose to try and take on the Cop defence rather than look for the easier passing option.
The half time team talk went unheeded with no visible improvement in Tadcaster’s play. Things quickly went from bad to worse as Copmanthorpe knocked the stuffing out of the home team with goals 2 and 3. The away team were on the up and played some lovely football against a Taddy team which had all but given up – scoring twice more. There was late consolation when James pounced to tap in after Tom’s shot had only been parried by the Copmanthorpe ‘keeper. Too little, too late though.
So, in summary, this was a harsh lesson for Tadcaster that to get anywhere in Division 1 takes a team effort. Let’s hope it was “just one of those days” and that the boys can bounce back in two weeks time against Poppleton.
Man of the Match: George – Can hold his head high for not giving up the fight.

Similar attitude and a similar result. The first half was fairly even, finishing goalless, but it was one-way traffic in the second half as Copmanthorpe passed Tadcaster off the park.
